Thanks for your comment! It's always ...Hi Mark

Thanks for your comment! It's always a pleasure to have authors and brands stop by.

I am sorry for my error regarding Kogan Page; I am happy to fix this on both of my blogs where I have posted this. The distinction between small independent publishing houses and places that specialise in self-publishing can sometimes be difficult to detect, and I fully admit that this was my mistake.

Naturally bloggers accept advertising and gifts; how far this makes them part of the marketing process, as I think we both agree depends on them. I think a surprising amount can be done in terms of style even on a small budget - even if someone is beautifully made-up and dressed despite a small salary, this arguably does not necessarily mean that they are clad and decorated head to toe in expensive products (as you will see on my blog, I have reviewed many inexpensive products that I find to be excellent - or, at the very least, better than their more expensive counterparts). We may have to agree to disagree on that point, though!

Thank you for your support and understanding of both my writing and my viewpoints. If you're ever free, it would perhaps be very interesting one day to meet for coffee (I live just outside of Paris and work in the city). I'm sure I could have much to learn from you!

BiancaBiancaPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04701757541161509783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4176960399851077141.post-19439946470237570462011-10-19T19:16:08.170+01:002011-10-19T19:16:08.170+01:00Hi Bianca. I'm Mark, the author of the book. F...Hi Bianca. I'm Mark, the author of the book. Firstly, I want to thank you for your post. To hear such praise from a beauty expert (and the book is not aimed just at those) is heartwarming indeed.

On my publishers' behalf, I'd like to assure you that Branded Beauty is by no means self-published: Kogan Page is an international publisher with offices in London and New York. They've published six of my titles so far and I haven't paid them a penny. Rather the reverse, in fact.

However, I see that I have offended you. But as you yourself admit, truly independent beauty writers, in any medium, are few and far between. Those who wish to make a living from their blogs must accept advertising and many accept gifts too. This inevitably makes them part of the marketing process.

I've been a journalist since 1987 and do my research thoroughly. It helps that my wife is a well-known Paris fashion and beauty blogger (her blog is called Café Mode) and between us we know many others, both in France and abroad. Many of them are beautifully made up and dressed, despite their relatively small salaries. It would be naive to imagine that this is a coincidence.

The book's subject is controversial and some of my conclusions are hurtful. Once again, I thank you for seeing past this and giving me such a positive review. I'm happy that you remain uncorrupted by the industry that inspires you. Good luck with your future writings. If they ever turn into a book, I know a very good publisher.Mark Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11701648449364534619noreply@blogger.com
